Moose Lodge 2414

May 2020

  • From the Senior Regent
  • Hello Co-Workers, We haven't seen each other in a while now and I hope you all have taken advantage of the down-time to relax, catch up on something you let go or work on unfinished projects. Thanks to social media, many of us have been able to talk and keep up online and I've spoken with several of you by phone. I pray everyone is staying safe and healthy, whether you are social distancing at home or you are an essential employee still venturing out to work. It looks like in the coming days we will soon see more changes in what is/isn't allowed and we may be back together soon. While things have slowed down socially, the need for our support for Mooseheart and Moosehaven continues. We had a few fundraisers to complete that were cancelled due to the circumstances, but our contributions for Special Projects and Scholarship and Maintenance are still expected. We have been blessed to have had some decent fundraisers this year that will allow us to meet these commitments, but please start thinking about things we might do when we are allowed to gather again, that might help us quickly generate funds.

When we return, we will have many things to celebrate and remember as our Chapter year comes to an end on April 30, 2020. While this isn't the way any of us had planned for the year to end, I think we have accomplished many things. I am thankful for those who have served on the Board of Officers this year and for our Chairmen and co-workers who have stepped forward to help. I believe we have had some fun and I've seen friendships unfold, as well as grow closer, as we have worked together. We've seen some wonderful movements forward with the WOTM becoming a part of the Association, co-workers invited to serve as Chairs at the District and State level and more to come with discussions about One Moose. When we are allowed to return to meeting, we will move forward with our election (Officers and Chairmen's term of office is extended until June 30) and tie up loose ends from the Chapter year. Our Lodge has seen some upgrades and improvements during this downtime thanks to members of the Maintenance Committee that I've heard everyone will want to check out. Our Lodge will host the Moose Legion Celebration June 26-28th and we will have activities to plan, the 26h Annual Golf Tournament coming up, and an Installation to prepare for. Hang in there and I look forward to seeing you at the Lodge soon!

    Fraternally,

  • Official Communication for April 21, 2020 Moose International announces the Membership Campaign for 2020-21
  • One Moose

Although the vote to unify the men and women as "one" in our fraternity has yet to take place, we realize the importance of us working together as "one". Regardless of the vote and despite our differences, I believe that we work best when we do it together! Therefore, "One Moose" proclaims that we are committed to work together as one, despite our differences to include gender.

"One Moose" is more than just a campaign slogan; it's how we need to approach our mission in order to be successful and continue to create our future.

Campaign materials will be mailed once the stay-at-home order for Illinois has been lifted. Please check out our website for campaign materials in the interim.

  • Last month's newsletter was not mailed out. It was only published electronically on our Lodge Facebook Groups. I apologize for not getting it sent out. I did print them, but there was technical glitch that printed them out of order and doubled the print job. Because of this and the social distancing and stay at home order, I opted not to go back and re-print them. I know this may have had a negative impact on some and gave a few the wrong impression. It was not my intention.

I have recently built a web-site that will also help to deliver the content of the newsletter. The current month's newsletter and each issue going forward, will be readable on your computer, phone or other devices. You can also download all of the newsletters in PDF format since I took over publishing two and half years ago. The address is http:// www.mooselodge2414.org/ . Soon, I hope to implement a way for members to opt-out of receiving mailed newsletters and receive it by email or download. The more people who opt for electronic newsletter, the more money the Lodge can save in postage, paper, ink and time.

Lots of work has been done around the Lodge as mentioned in last month's newsletter (electronic only). A skeleton crew made up of the Maintenance Committee, officers and staff, have been doing some much needed repairs, improvements and deep cleaning. Some of these include a new larger stage, new stage and dancefloor lights, deck painted, new ceiling fans, roof repairs, leak fixed, new bar shelves, carpets cleaned, bathroom repairs, and much is still being done.

There has been some great times had on social media over the past few weeks. A new group was created called The Moose Virtual Social Quarters and is made up of over 6100 Moose members from all over. Some of the members have shared Lodge improvements, live performances, fundraiser ideas, and some creative ways to pass the time. There was even a fundraiser selling Moose Virtual Social Quarters T-Shirts that raised $6800 for Moose Charities. At one point, we even collected an endowment. It's important to remember we are Moose, especially for our children of Mooseheart and seniors of Moosehaven. They relied on us for everything before the quarantine, they need us now more than ever.

The MOKAN 4 Moose Legion Board of Officers have been staying busy and conducting conference calls weekly. Good news and bad news. The bad news, the Moose Legion Celebration this month at Lodge 1999 has been canceled due to COVID-19. Good news is MOKAN 4 made all of our goals for the year and we aren't done yet! We will be making some donations to Moose. Being one of the lower medium sized Moose Legions with just 341 active Moose Legionnaires, we are currently ranked 23rd out of 159 Moose Legions in the nation and in the next few weeks we will climb even higher. The next Moose Legion Celebration will be healed at Moose Lodge 2414 June 26th – 28th. Plans are underway to make this year's celebration at 2414 even better than last years.

Like most of you, I have spent the last weeks staying at home with my family, working around the house and getting caught up on work, projects and music. I sure miss my Moose brothers and sisters and look forward to the day we can safely return to the Lodge. I have reached out to some of our members at our Lodge and other Lodges just to check in and see if they are alright. If you haven't heard from a someone in a while, you should reach out too. Remember, we are all in this together and we need to remain fraternal.
